This is the 3rd time I got invited by Caritas to do this…. doing family portraits for their members. Many of my subjects are really really old, like 80-90 years old. It is surprising that some elders still remembered me from last year, some don’t remembered, and some left :( . I feel very warm to see their families, spouses, or grand-children all took the time to come to the center to take photos with their parent / grandparent. I witness love, relationship, and time.
Although many elders are shy and they would begin their session by saying ‘ah.. i am so old now with so many wrinkles, why still need to take photos?’… but as soon as I warmed them up and show them what I took, I would see a smile on their face, and they would automatically come up with more poses on their own. Two subjects inspires me most, children & elders. I respect elders for their wisdom. I think they are most beautiful when laughing and my shutter would just click click and click if I see them burst into laughter. I liked their eyes, often filled with serenity; smiles filled with kindness; and poses with a flavour of shyness.. which together, come out to be very ‘cute’. I think this is the best word I would use to describe them. Their cuteness really inspires me.
